Tanka: Dishwasher

Dishwasher spits out
filmy glasses & dull bowls,
plates gone drab & pans

crusted like eyes with fatigue
even sleep can’t scrub away.

the strange happy teen
waves palm leaves over his head,
sways to the music

as the organ plays, priest prays,
and the choir tries not to stare
