Creation Myth

It isn’t that light didn’t exist,
but that it tangled with the dark
in a furious & frantic mist
of sweat & mud, questions & quarks —
all chaotic & disordered.
The old myths of body & mind
as distinct? Well, laughable. Dirt
was at the heart of the Big Bang
as much as was the bright melting,
the dense devouring pressures.
Their uncomfortable rumbling
and acutely painful fissures
blazed with that first breaking forth,
both hot and cold, both ache and mirth.

  1. Wow. What an ambitious start to NaPoWriMo! I like the slant rhyme in the final couplet.

  2. Scary – isn’t it? I started it after midnight! And crammed right through it in a half hour. Surprised how well it holds up in the light of day.

  3. I really like

    Dirt
was at the heart of the Big Bang
as much as was the bright melting

    — that’s lovely.
