Fragments of a Chance Encounter

i.
“Nancy,” he says, in a hushed voice, “look.”
A woman with long white hair, turns,
breaks into smiles, a halo of white.

ii.
“What a sweet pooch!”
“He’s so friendly.”
“What kind is he?”
“I never heard of that before.”

iii.
“It’s our anniversary.
We met 18 months ago.
Sweetest day, on the number five bus.
This bus.” They both smile.
